LEXI CUFF
TUTORING BACKGROUND
Over the past ten years, I have had the opportunity to work alongside elementary-aged students up to seniors in college focusing my attention to reading comprehension, writing, arithmetic, mathematics and communication/ business-oriented courses. I have had the privilege to work one-on-one with 12 elementary students over the past ten years (average length 3 academic school years per child), 4 adults, and 8 students specifically for testing/ studying habits.
As someone who struggled in elementary school with a reading comprehension learning disability, being able to offer assistance to bright-eyed students, families and educators reminds me that any obstacle can be an inspiration. From learning in third grade that I had dyslexia to fifth grade, when my science teacher told my parents I would not amount to college because of my learning disabilities, to reading 366 books in 2016 to begin training my brain on vocabulary words (over 200 pages per book counted only)—to graduating a year early in college— I am a support system to those needing an educational balance. Being able to be a part of the “light bulb moment” makes me want to challenge the educational barriers—and I have you will see that in my experience.
